Which is the best month to sit for the MAT Exam

One of the most trending postgraduate degrees nowadays is MBA. An MBA is a master's in business administration, which can be opted by anyone who holds a graduation degree of a minimum of 3 years from any recognized university. The upcoming generation is thrilled with the enthusiasm and starts to prepare for the entrance test even before finishing off their graduation and it is quite normal to be confused as to where to start from. Management Aptitude Test or MAT is an MBA entrance test that is managed by the All-India Management Association and is a national-level test. MAT is accepted in more than 700+ colleges, in India. The applicant who aspires to appear for the MAT exam, wonders as to why they should give this exam only for Maharashtra colleges, here goes the answer:

  • MAT is the only exam that is conducted four times a year.
  • MAT opens up doors for you into Maharashtra’s top business schools and colleges.
  • MAT exam is comparatively an easier entrance exam than the others.
  • The MAT exam score is valid for one year and hence the final year students can also apply.
  • MAT applicants can select 5 institutes where they wish to apply and AIMA would send the scores directly without any charges, and if the cut-off is matched, further process is called upon.
  • MAT exam has no limit to the number of attempts.

The fees for CBT, PBT, IBT is Rs.1650/- and for both PBT and CBT, and IBT and CBT it is Rs.2750/-. The MAT exam is of a total of 200 questions which are divided into 5 sections and has to be solved within 150 minutes.

While appearing for the MAT exam, it should be kept in mind that, for one correct answer 1 mark would be given and for each incorrect answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted. So, closely answer your questions as negative marking is applicable.

The MAT Exam is conducted in February, May, September, and December. As you have been given choices to select the month in which you want to appear for the exam. With good research and discussions with appeared applicants, it is advised that the best months to appear for the exam is in December and February. Why? As the test scores are valid for 1 year, it is easier for the applicant to prepare thoroughly for the exam and use the score for the institutions they have aimed for. The MAT examination can be prepared for in six months, three months, or even one month, it is just that the more preparation better the score.

Now that you know, you can apply as many times as you want, and in any preferred month, the questions arise as to when should we prepare with little time between the exams. You must understand that, though the MAT Exam is comparatively difficult yet, it has its difficulty level. The MAT exam preparation requires approximately 3-4 months at the minimum to achieve a good percentile. And you require a good percentile to apply to a good college. A percentile of 80+ would be sufficient to target top colleges of MBA.

The MAT Exam has equal weightage for all the sections, but while preparing you to need to keep a few things in mind such as:

Reading is a must. The General Knowledge and current affairs section require extra attention as the portion is vast and lengthy. Keep reading newspapers, magazines, blogs, books, and world records, this will also help you in improving your English proficiency.

Practice as many papers as you can. As you only have 150 minutes to solve 200 questions, you must practice past years' papers and sample papers to increase speed and accuracy.

Time management is of utmost priority. Not only to solve the question paper but also, for preparation. Prepare a schedule and work accordingly to target section-wise.

As the test is conducted four times a year that is in February, May, September and December, it would be convenient to start preparing between the month of January, March and June as the preparations would be perfect for the MAT Exam months.

Look out for your health. While stressing so much for further education and entrance exams, you might ignore your physical and mental health. So, while preparation takes an hour to concentrate on yourself.
