Entry into Symbiosis University as a Law Student for Bachelors and Masters

LAW Entrance | SLAT | 6th October 2022

One must have heard of the word symbiosis in their school life as a term which means ‘living together for the mutual benefit of each other and that’s what one finds in the Symbiosis college. Nestled in the heart of Pune which is said to be Oxford of the east this institution was established in the year 1977 which is 11 years before the oldest National Law University. Shortlisting a college for doing your bachelor’s or master’s is a brain wrecking experience, while the NLUs have a monopoly of being considered the best law schools this college easily catch the eye of a person for being the only non-NLU and that too a privately governed college for being in top 10 law school in the country. With over 50 highly qualified faculty of which majority are doctorate holders and NET certified this college offers BA LLB, BBA LLB, 3 year LLB, LLM and a PhD programme. Symbiosis offers great faculty along with a worldwide culture.

Whether you are a fresh graduate or just out of the school law aspirant it is essential to choose the right institution which personally for me is Symbiosis. Once you graduate from any college Post-graduation should not be just a way to increase your college life for two more years as people tend to follow that and are unable to cope up with the master’s as it requires another level of dedication to be a specialized professional in a particular subject, unlike graduation. The academic curriculum of Pune Symbiosis Law School is based on modern legal development, combining traditional doctrine and jurisprudence, unlimited academic freedom and a variety of curriculum combinations for Masters.

Symbiosis Law Aptitude Test (SLAT) earlier known as Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) is an exam conducted by Symbiosis International University (SIU) every year as it is a gateway for entrance to four Symbiosis Law School located at Pune, Nagpur, Noida and Hyderabad. This exam offers admissions to over 900 seats varied at all 4 premises for Undergraduate Degree. This year SLAT will be held on the 27th of June in an online Test mode. Being a coveted Law entrance test it sees a large number of nationwide applications every year. As there is no set syllabus for the exam by SIU the syllabus or general idea about what to expect comes from an in-depth analysis of the previous year papers, considering that one has to formulate important topics for each Section.

Previously the exam had a total of 150 questions from different sections like Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, Analytical Reasoning, English and General Knowledge (which includes both Static and Current GK). Recently the exam pattern was changed along with the exam name now there are a total of 75 Multiple Choice Questions (15 questions each from all five sections) and a Written Ability Test (WAT).

A total of 105 minutes are provided 75 minutes for MCQ and 30 minutes for WAT. Each question carries a single mark and there is no negative marking for this paper. The result would not include the WAT score nor would they be declared along with the SLAT scorecard. WAT will be evaluated by the institution for which the candidate has been shortlisted and paid for.
