RCC and Prestressed Concrete
Q1.

Find effective Flange width , for isolated L - beam , having following specifications :
Thickness of slab   100 mm .
Width of rib            300 mm .
Centre to centre distance of beams - 3 m
Effective span of continuous beam - 6 m

For isolated L - beam,

b=  + bw  b

where ,

bf = effective width of flange .

Lo = distance between points of contra flexure

= 0.7 X effective span of continuous beam

= 0.7 X 6 = 4.2 m

= 4200 mm .

bw = breadth of web

b = Actual width of flange which is equal to half the breadth of web plus half of the clear distance between the beams .

b =

= 1500 mm .

bf =  + 300

= 688.89 mm

= 690 mm < 1500 mm

Hence bf = 690 mm
