About Civil Services 

 

The Civil Services refer to career bureaucrats of the Republic of India who are known to form the backbone of the administrative mechanism of the country. To get selected for these services, the Union Public Service Commission conducts the Civil Services Examination (CSE), simply referred to as the UPSC exam, a nationwide competitive examination in India. This examination is considered to be one of the most difficult examinations in the country.

 

If an aspirant successfully passes the exam, one can expect placement in various Civil Services of the Government of India, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), an Indian Police Service (IPS).

 

Importance

 

Civil Services is one of the most esteemed jobs in India. UPSC Civil Services or the IAS Examination is conducted for recruitment to over twenty-four posts in the Central Government and its various departments. Since independence, Indian Government workers have enjoyed high status, prestige and power and are immensely respected for the job they do. In addition to this, Civil Service employees are highly paid along with additional incentives, bonuses and perks, provided lavish bungalows with caretakers by the Government in order to lead a luxurious lifestyle. The youth in India have now deemed Civil Services as a “dream” career.
