All You Need To Know About XAT!

Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) is conducted by Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI) Jamshedpur every year for admission into their MBA program. XAT exam is conducted in January every year, and XAT examination 2023 will be conducted on 8th January in a single shift. Candidates who are preparing for MBA need to know the pattern, qualification, and exam process before starting their exam preparation. In this article, we are going to be looking at the pattern and how to prepare for XAT.

Marking Scheme

The XAT examination has a unique marking scheme. If you are attempting the exam correctly, you will be rewarded one mark, while an incorrect attempt will fetch you negative 0.25 marks. However, a candidate cannot leave more than eight questions unattempted, and more than eight questions left unattempted will fetch you a penalty of 0.05 marks. There is no negative marking involved in the General Knowledge Section.

Preparing for MBA Entrance

Syllabus

Before starting your preparation, it is essential to know the syllabus of the test.

  • Verbal and Logical Ability: The syllabus for this section includes Vocabulary, Analogies, Paragraph Completion, Para Jumbles, Critical Reasoning, and Statements-Assumptions. This section comprises 26 questions for y’all to attempt.

  • Decision Making: This is a very diverse section, and you are not going to find it elsewhere. There will be around eight passages with 2 to 3 questions in each passage, and candidates have to select the best outcome out of the options given. And this section has 21 questions allotted to it.

  • Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation: The syllabus includes Percentages, Number System, Time and Distance, Time and Work, Equations, Clocks and Calendars, Geometry, Algebra, Venn Diagrams, and Data Interpretation. The QA and DI sectional will have 28 questions.

  • GK: There hasn’t been any changes in the syllabus. It’ll have 25 questions and plus the best part it is that it doesn’t have any negative marking in this section. The syllabus for GK includes - History, Geography, Economy & Business, Current Affairs, Personality & Awards, Science & Technology.

XAT exam is divided into 2 parts - Part 1 contains 3 sections i.e. Verbal Ability, Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, Data Interpretation and Decision Making. The allotted sectional time for this section is 165 minutes and it can be summed up as Part 1 of the XAT 2023 exam. You get 2 hours and 45 minutes to solve. You can switch between sections as there's no sectional time limit allotted. The part 1 contains all MCQ based questions with 5 options.

The Part 2 exam consists of General Knowledge as well Essay Writing and the dedicated sectional time allotted is 25 minutes i.e after the Part 1 allotted time gets over.

 

Qualification for XAT

The Qualification for XAT for candidates appearing for the exam are as follows:

  • Students need to have a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA in their Graduation to be eligible to apply. Students belonging to reserved categories and Persons with Disabilities (PWD) category need to have at least 45% marks.

  • Students need to have a degree from a recognized University. The university registration needs to be included in the act of the central or state legislature or are deemed a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or need to have equivalent qualification given by the Ministry of Human Resources Development.

  • Students in their final year of Graduation are also eligible to apply provided they fulfil the above-mentioned criteria.

Filling the Application Form

Here is a guide to the Application Process for XAT.

  • After the release of the notification, visit the official website of XLRI Jamshedpur and click on “New Candidate Login.”

  • Create a User ID and Password by entering the required credentials.

  • After entering the captcha and checking on the “I agree” tab, you will get your XAT ID on your mail and mobile number.

  • Now go to “Application Form” and fill up the application form.

  • Enter the details asked in the Application Process and Upload all the necessary documents and Academic Qualifications.

  • If you have work experience, enter the details of it in the form.

  • There are four programs under XLRI; select the programs you want and also give your campus preference. Also, give your preference city for the test.

  • Finally, Pay the required fee and download the payment receipt.
